The 2012 Battle in the Desert is set for Presidents' Day Holiday Weekend February 18,19 and 20. This is the High Season in the desert, an ideal time to enjoy great weather, golf and the many activities available in the Coachella Valley.

The James Cup Challenge is an annual team match play event. Lefties from across the U.S. and Canada are invited to join us. The formats will be: Day One: Four- ball, Day Two: Best Shot (scramble) and Day Three: Singles. There will be optional gaming contests: Deuces and Team Bets. Skins may be considered depending on the size of the field.

Tahquitz Creek Golf Resort www.tahquitzgolfresort.com was the site of 2002 and 2003 JCC Matches. The Resort has two spectacular 18-hole courses ( Resort and Legend) and a superb practice facility. The Matches will be played on the Resort Course. The entry fee is $325.00 and includes 3 rounds of golf with cart, range balls, closest to pin all par 3's each day, golf glove, towel, poker chip ball marker, Welcome Reception, Player's Dinner (guests invited), daily breakfast and lunch, bottled water on cart, 2 drafts beers or sodas following golf and a 15% discount off Pro-Shop merchandise.

Tahquitz Creek Resort is 2.8 miles from the Palm Springs Airport and 4.8 miles from the Comfort Inn where lodging arrangements have been made for the event. The lodging rate is $95.00 (single or double) per night and includes a full breakfast. This is an outstanding rate for the High Season and will be in effect from Thursday the 16th through Tuesday the 21st.

The Comfort Inn is located in downtown Palm Springs. Shops, restaurants and the casino are within walking distance. There will be plenty of warm sunshine, blue skies, great restaurants, shopping and other activities for the ladies including Guest Golf. Combine that with lefties battling it out for three days of team match play, it just doesn't get any better

                                                  2011 BATTLE IN THE DESERT

The Matches were played February 25-27 at The Golf Club at Terra Lago. A total of 17 Matches were played over the three days on the North and South Courses of Terra Lago.

The teams (North and South) were made up geographically with players from the U.S. and Canada. Several of the players will represent the U.S. and International Teams in the 2012 James Cup International scheduled for St Andrews, Scotland. The Blustery weather conditions on Day Two gave these players a preview of what they could be facing in Scotland.

The Day One Matches went to the South by a score of 8 to 7. Day Two the North took the lead picking up 8
½ to the South's 6½. Going into the final day with the North holding a lead of 15½
to 14½ they needed 10½ of the 21 points available to close out the South. The South had other ideas by picking up 12½ of the points for a narrow 27 to 24 victory, which was only 1½ points from the Matches ending all square and forcing a playoff.

The 2011 Challenge was the 12th in the series, which dates back to 1999.

Congratulations go to both teams and their Captains (see photo below) for a spirited competition with plenty of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
